About the Society

ANTHSOCLOGO.jpg

The UWaterloo Undergraduate Anthropology Student Society (UW AnthSoc) is an undergraduate student society affiliated with the University of Waterloo and works continuously and cooperatively with the Arts Student Union (ASU). The UW AnthSoc strives to create a space both for and of anthropology students. As a department with a smaller presence on campus, fostering a diverse community of anthropology students is incredibly important to us. This is why you, yes YOU, are so valuable to our mosaic of perspectives, and why your voice is so important in communicating the needs of students in the program to the governing bodies. We are dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge within the discipline of anthropology and opening a space in which to share and seek all things in the study of human cultures, past and present, while best supporting the needs of students within the department. We aim to do this through both educational and entertaining events, student advocacy, ongoing faculty-department-student communication, academic resources, and some occasional snacks!

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is coordinated within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
